Ready to Rep Your City?
Rep Your City
Lead Local. Launch National.
Black Writers Weekend is more than a touring festival — it's a growing network of literary leaders, one for every city on the tour. Rep Your City is how that network gets built.
What It Is
Rep Your City is an 8-week leadership cohort designed to train and test the next generation of BWW City Reps. Over the course of the program, participants will build real skills in community organizing, event production, and literary programming — all while being evaluated for a leadership role representing Black Writers Weekend in their home city.
This isn't a passive workshop. It's a hands-on proving ground for people ready to turn their passion for their local creative community into a national platform.
Who This Is For
Rep Your City is built for people who:
- Know their city's writers, bookstores, and creative spaces inside and out
- Have built or led a program, event, or community before
- Want to help bring Black Writers Weekend to their city — and lead it
What You'll Gain
Participants will work directly with BWW leadership, including:
- Tamika Jamison — Founder & CEO, AAMBC / Black Writers Weekend
- Phoenix Williams — BWW Program Team
Across 8 weeks, you'll be trained in the skills, relationships, and responsibilities that come with representing BWW at the local level — with the opportunity to be selected as an official BWW City Rep when the program concludes.
Why It Matters
Every stop on the BWW tour needs someone on the ground who understands the community, the culture, and the mission. Rep Your City exists to find and develop those people — city by city, cohort by cohort — as Black Writers Weekend continues to grow into a national movement for Black literary culture.
