Documentary Screening and Creative Experiences Coming to Six Cities in Response to DEI Rollbacks
ATLANTA, GA — January 9, 2026 — Delphine Legacy Media and AAMBC founder Tamika Jamsion announce an unprecedented expansion of Black Writers Weekend, bringing the celebrated literary festival experience to six cities across the United States this year. In addition to the flagship event traditionally held in Atlanta the first weekend of August, the festival will host dynamic pop-up experiences in Los Angeles, Newark, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Dallas.
Each city will feature a screening of the powerful new documentary Dear Black Writers, which chronicles the decade-long journey of Black Writers Weekend and the vibrant community it has fostered. More than a documentary, Dear Black Writers is a vibrant tribute to the storytellers, dreamers, and changemakers behind the festival and the creative sanctuary it has become. A love letter to Black creativity, the film captures intimate stories and powerful moments that showcase Black voices in publishing and entertainment.
Multi-City Tour Schedule:
- Washington, D.C. — March 14 at Black-owned Shanklin Hall
- Los Angeles, CA — April 18 at Cal State University (Full-day pop-up)
- Newark, NJ — April 25 at Rutgers University (Full-day pop-up, sponsored by Audible)
- Chicago, IL — May 23 in partnership with Da Book Joint, a Black-owned bookstore
- Dallas, TX — May 2 at Apprentice Creative Space
Los Angeles and Newark will host full-day pop-up experiences, while Chicago, Washington D.C., and Dallas will feature documentary screenings, a creative panel designed to inspire the local community, and networking mixers to activate meaningful connections.
“This pop-up series is our answer to the recent cutbacks on DEI initiatives,” said Tamika Jamison, founder of AAMBC and Black Writers Weekend. “I wanted to bring this experience closer to communities across the country to show that Black writers’ stories will continue to thrive regardless of the current administration. Our voices matter, our stories matter, and we’re creating spaces where Black creativity can flourish and we invite all to join us.”
Audible is the proud sponsor of the Newark experience at Rutgers University, demonstrating continued corporate commitment to amplifying Black literary voices.
Tickets for all cities are now available at blackwritersweekend.com.
